Ercol 461, Green Dot, Adult Size School Stacking Chairs x 4.

Ercol 461, Green Dot, Adult Size School Stacking Chairs x 4.
Absolutely gorgeous set of Ercol 461, adult sized, school stacking chairs.
This is a rather rare set of 4 Ercol originals, designed in 1963 to be used as school chairs. The chairs came in 5 sizes to cover all the school ages, the green dot on the back denotes the adult sized chairs which are harder to come by. Being school chairs they are designed to be super strong, comfortable and functional. They stack when not in use and are not only space saving but aesthetically pleasing. The seat is solid elm which has been striped of the old tired varnish to reveal the beautiful wood grain, each is unique like a fingerprint. The legs and back are beech which has also been striped to reveal the grain. Ercol has re-released these chairs but they are made in ash and the wood is no way near as striking. These school chairs were superseded by Robin Days Series E plastic stacking chairs in the 1970's. This set of 4 has been striped and refinished in 3 coats of osmo hardwax oil. There are signs of use but these just add to the history of the chairs. 2 of the chairs still have their Ercol blue label, please see photos. The chairs are strong and ready to use and would make a fantastic addition to any home.
